Racing Point’s Sergio Perez is set to miss the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix after testing positive for coronavirus, a second time.
It has been reported that Nico Hulkenberg who was unable to race last weekend when his car developed a mechanical problem before the start of the Grand Prix, will race in his place.
The 30-year-old Mexican missed the British Grand Prix after contracting Covid-19, but his team was hopeful he would return.
On Thursday, it was confirmed that Perez had tested positive again, and will be unable to enter the paddock. In a statement, the team said Perez was physically well and recovering and would continue to follow the guidance of Public health.
Otmar Szafnauer Team principal lauded Nico’s effort and said he did a really strong job last weekend after receiving a last-minute call-up to drive at Silverstone and proved why he was an obvious choice.
Racing Point has been criticized within Formula one for their actions in trying to pursue a return for Perez, but Racing Point said that because his first test was inconclusive, as reported by F1 authorities, was the day before when guidance was for only seven days’ isolation, that should apply to Perez.
