Europa League

Last night, Sevilla, Bayer Leverkusen, FC Basel, and Wolves secured their spots in the Europa League quarterfinals.

Before the 2nd leg round of 16 matches last night, FC Copenhagen, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and Shakhtar Donetsk were already awaiting their opponents for the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal fixtures will now take place on the 10th and 11th of August. Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen will go to war, Shakhtar Donetsk will face Basel, Manchester United will battle Copenhagen while Wolves and Sevilla clash.

Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan will look to cap off a great season with a trophy. Inter will be aiming to clinch their first form of silverware in 10 years. Wolves will be desperate to win the Europa League as they missed out on qualifying spot thanks to Arsenal.

Wolves have reached the knockout stage of a European competition for the first time in 150 years. This is proof of their outstanding progress under Nuno Espirito Santo. Despite the limited players at their disposal, Wolves have produced outstanding performances over the last two seasons.

Winning the Europa League propels Wolves to the UEFA Champions League next season. They will be guaranteed an automatic spot in the group stage. This means that the English Premier League could have eight representatives in European competitions next season.

Manchester United have already secured Champions League football for next season but will be aiming to win a trophy for the first time since the 2016/17 season which saw them lift the Europa League trophy under then-manager Jose Mourinho.

However, Bayer Leverkusen, FC Copenhagen. Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Basel, and Sevilla are not to be overlooked.

All these teams are battled the best of the best in Europe to have come this far. These games will be extremely exciting as they are straight knockout fixtures. All the teams have one shot to get it right.
