The Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS has suspended Cardiff City’s appeal against a transfer ban, in which they failed to pay the first installment of late Emiliano Sala’s transfer fee to Nantes, for a second time.

Last October, FIFA authorized Cardiff to fulfil their end of the bargain, after the two clubs had disagreed over when it should be paid. Last year, FIFA’s Players’ Status Committee stated that Cardiff could face a three-year transfer ban if they failed to pay the agreed amount within 45 days of receiving bank information from the French club.

Cardiff appealed the decision in December, and it was originally due to be heard this year. In a statement, CAS said they have agreed to lengthen the time limits for filing the submissions. The statement further said as a result of this, the hearing date has not been set.

In January 2019, Sala’s helicopter went missing in the English Channel while travelling to Wales from France after signing for Cardiff. His remains were found after weeks of under-water search
