Benue exco approves post-covid research intervention programme

A one-year post-COVID-19 research and intervention program aimed at promoting quality education and an effective reading culture has been approved by the Benue State Executive Council.

The State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Ngunan Addingi, disclosed this to reporters after the EXCO meeting presided over by the State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

According to the Information Commissioner, the programme includes a donation of books and other instructional materials as well as training of teachers.

The State Executive Council also approved the design and development of e-learning and virtual education software and hardware for Benue State E-Learning Centre, BESEVIRC.

The design and development of the e-learning software and hardware is a Public-Private Partnership, PPP, agreement.

The purchase of a property for office accommodation by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development corporate office to address the accommodation needs of the Ministry was equally approved.

The Executive Council also ratified the N40 billion loan request earlier approved by the State Assembly for the development of infrastructure in the state.

Accordingly, the sum of N828 million was also approved by the council for the clearing of 1,740 hectares of land in different sites across the state for use by farmers as a deliberate way of promoting agricultural activities.

The EXCO also approved the procurement of 60 units of HP and 30 units of 75HP Deere Tractors to the tune of over N1.6 billion for sale to farmers at subsidised rate of 60 per cent to further boost agricultural activities.
