Two-time Major Champion, John Daly opts out of PGA Championship citing health concerns

Two-time Major Champion John Daly has said he opted out of this week’s PGA Championship because of his health concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 54-year-old withdrew on Sunday from the August 6 event, one of golf’s four majors, which will be played at San Francisco’s TPC Harding Park without fans.

In a statement, Daly said he is Diabetic and does not feel comfortable traveling in the current situation. He says been too close to even small crowds, risks exposing his health to the virus.

He also confirmed having a knee injury, as one of the other reasons for opting out. Wild Thing Daly as he popularly called who won the event in 1991, is one of many players, including Italy’s Francesco Molinari and former world number one Lee Westwood, opting out of the championship.
