Justin Thomas has reclaimed his spot as world number one, after winning the WGC Saint Jude’s Invitational in Memphis. The American was four shots behind Brendon Todd who was leading but later won by three, from Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Tom Lewis, and Daniel Berger.

The defending champion Koepka had 17 birdies, to get within one of Thomas’ but found water on the last to end his hopes. The win gave Thomas his 13th PGA Tour title four days before the US PGA Championship starts.

He won the US PGA in 2017, making it his only major title to date. In a statement, Thomas said winning the tour and climbing back to the top spot, meant a lot to him. He said he had struggled with coming from behind in the past to win.

Thomas squandered a three-stroke lead with three holes to play and two bogeys dropped him into a play-off with Collin Morikawa, which he lost, weeks ago at the Workday Charity Open.
