Many states in Nigeria may delay the resumption of schools due to inadequate preparation.
This is despite the August 4 schools reopening date for exit classes announced by the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba.
A statement by the Minister of State for Education and signed by the Director of Press, Ben Goong, said Education Commissioners have been reporting varying degrees of preparation and readiness for reopening between August 4 and 10.
The statement noted that the Minister told the commissioners at the end of a virtual meeting to undertake an assessment tour of their schools and examination centres so that no institution or child will be left behind.
Nwajiuba announced that all the 104 Federal Unity Colleges are ready to reopen for exit classes on Tuesday, August 4.
The Minister also directed all schools to communicate their specific reopening dates to the parents and students, in order to avoid chaos.
He advised that all returning students undergo temperature checks among other protocols, before being admitted into their schools.
