At the peak of the COVID-19 disease, the world including Nigeria witnessed a total lockdown of schools, markets, and economic activities with its resultant effect of job losses but others within the same period saw opportunities with their embrace of digital technology.
It’s in this regard that the Delta State Government in Warri through its Ministry of Youth Development in collaboration with the Eugene Uzum led state orientation bureau kicked off the engagement of youths in the state on the needed protocol and orientation in order to excel in the face of the pandemic.
Delta State Government, through its orientation bureau, employed several measures to mentor its youths to be creative and innovative so as to grab the opportunity that abounds most especially in the digital technology.
Seeing that the Coronavirus has come to stay, and life has to go on, the word “new normal” was invented as hyperbole to assuage the realities of the Coronavirus pandemic on mankind by looking for opportunities instead of wallowing in pity and excuses.
Ambassador Pamela Odibelu and Ossai Ogagala said opportunity abounds in the new normal, as it only requires being creative and leaving one’s comfort zone.
Commissioner for Youth Development, Ifeanyi Egwunyenga, and DG State Orientation Bureau, Uzum, said the state government has deployed technology and civic engagement for its youths.
Obviously, the emergence of COVID-19 and people’s hope of seeing it fizzle away within the shortest period of time seem to have shattered with the slogan “new normal” meaning the disease is a problem everyone has to contend with.
