A man identified as Byamukama Felix responsible for the murder of a beloved and famed Gorilla, Rafiki from the Nkuringo Gorilla Group in Uganda has been sentenced to 11 years in prison over wildlife offence according to the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
Rakifi who was declared missing in June by the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park later found the body and after an autopsy, it was discovered that Rafiki died due to a spear attack.
Though Felix testified that the act was done in self-defense, Felix was however in posession of several hunting items and there were also no signs that Rafiki tried to attack him.
An estimated 1,000 gorillas are currently preserved across the Congo, Uganda and Rwanda in Africa and serve as an integral part of tourism revenue.
