Kenya Airways Pilots plead with Kenyatta to help preserve their Jobs

4,000 Kenya Airways pilots at the verge of facing redundancy urged the nation’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene. This was in a letter by Kenya Airline Pilots Association.

According to the letter signed by Captain Murithi Nyagah, the association’s General Secretary. The decision by the airline will affect thousands of families while simultaneously give up on the opportunity to strategically expand both the network and economy following the closure of Air Mauritius and South Africa Airways.

The association decried the abrupt lay off of staff during a pandemic which may result in losing professionals to competitors. According to KALPA, expanding Kenya Airways during the period will preserve the country’s capital as the economic hub in East Africa.

Kenya Airways management however disclosed redundancy of its employees is ‘right-sizing’ the airway to enable the effective running of the airline.
