Juventus have officially announced the appointment of former player Andrea Pirlo as the new manager of their U-23 team. The former midfield maestro represented The Old Lady between 2012 and 2015 and won 4 league titles, 2 Italian Super Cups and 1 Italian Cup. He narrowly missed out on the 2015 Champions League title as they lost to Barcelona in the final.

After he departed from Turin in 2015, the 2006 Italian World Cup winner then made a lucrative move to MLS expansion franchise team New York City Football Club. He was joined by Spain’s all-time leading scorer David Villa and Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer Frank Lampard.

He spent two years with The Pigeons and retired at the end of the 2017 season. Shortly after his retirement in 2017, Pirlo took time out to recover from injuries he sustained and then embarked on getting his coaching badges.

In 2019, he registered for the UEFA Pro Licence courses to become a UEFA licensed coach. The experience and expertise he gathered as a player will certainly aid him at the helm in Juventus. Pirlo will be looking forward to inspiring and leading a new generation of footballers.
