On Wednesday 29 July, a Tanzania official disclosed Elephant poaching in the East African State has reduced by 80 percent.

According to the Assistant Director of Anti-poaching in the ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, this feat was attainable as a result of the involvement of various stakeholders.

Robert Mande confirmed.In 2015, 2,000 poachers were nabbed out of 3,000 suspected poachers by the Wildlife Division. In the past five years also, 914 wildlife cases were also presented to the court for hearing with 691 cases prosecuted.

1,600 people found guilty were sentenced to prison to serve 10 to 20 years of jail time. While 43 other paid Sh2 billion fines. ‘Queen of Ivory‘ syndicate alongside 11 other syndicates dissolved.

According to Preventing and Combating Corruption Bureau Officer, forest harvesting in the country is also an issue.  Logs are illegally transported from Tanga, Tabora, Lindi Katavi to China.
