The European Union will imposed limits on technology exports to Hong Kong that may be used by the Chinese for surveillance or repression.

The information was disclosed by Reuters in an “EU draft document” in the Unions reaction to the security clampdown imposed by the Chinese government.

This action was agreed on Friday, 24th of July by 27 member states of the EU in an expression of grave concern. This agreement also includes plans to curb trade and a review of the visa agreements.

Reports says that the European Union will further scrutinize and impose limits on the export of certain sensitive equipment for end-use in Hong Kong, especially in areas where there has been suspicion of interception of internal communications and cyber surveillance.

This new restrictions by the European Union will reportedly go into force on Tuesday, 28th of July.
