Croatian centre back Dejan Lovren has left Liverpool Football Club on a permanent transfer to Russian Premier League side FC Zenit Saint Petersburg.
The 31-year-old has cost Zenit £10.9 million. The self-proclaimed best defender in the world has had limited chances at Liverpool over the last two seasons with Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Virgil Van Dijk all ahead of him in the pecking order.
After an outstanding debut season at Southampton, the Reds then snapped him up for £20 million which made him the most expensive Liverpool defender in 2014. However, the arrival of Van Dijk took the pressure of the price tag off Lovren.
Despite limited playing time, Lovren has always put in decent performances and has been an integral member of Jurgen Klopp’s resurgence of Liverpool. Lovren is a recipient of the 2019/19 Champions League title as well as the 2019/20 Premier League trophy.
