Jan Vertonghen confirmed his exit from Tottenham Hotspur via his twitter account on the 27th of July 2020. The Belgian centre back was into the last year of his contract during the 2019/20 English Premier League season and opted not to sign a new contract.
The left-footed centre back joined the North London team in 2012 from Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam. He is a versatile player who can play as a centre back and left-back.
The Belgian international is not shy in front of goal either with 12 goals in all appearances for Spurs over the last 8 years. Vertonghen has also been a permanent figure with the Belgian national team while at Spurs. He has had near misses with former coach Mauricio Pochettino at the helm also.
They narrowly missed out on the 2014/15 Premier League title, lost the 2014/15 Football League Cup final and the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League final.
The 33-year-old is in a great physical condition and certainly has a lot to offer the world of football. It would be exciting for football fans as they anticipate his next club.
