Social media giant, Twitter, just announced that it would be imposing new measures aimed to clamp down on the QAnon conspiracy theory.

It also announced that it would be banning thousands of accounts linked to this conspiracy.

Also, they would stop recommending content associated with the conspiracy and block all URLs linked to QAnon from being shared on their platform.

Twitter said that the new measure taken were for security reasons and would hopefully help to prevent “offline harm.”

The social media giant also declared that it would permanently ban accounts that violates this policies. Twitter expects about 150,000 accounts to be affected by this new policy.

QAnon is a conspiracy theory that details a “secret plot” by and alleged “deep state” against Donald Trump and his supporters.
