Organizers have announced the cancellation of the 2020 PGA tour series in China as a result of the global pandemic.

The PGA and Chinese Golf Association said the decision was made as a result of travel restrictions to China, due to the continued spread of COVID-19, which has made it impossible to stage the event.

In a statement, the Executive Director of the China-based tour, Greg Carlson, said moving the qualifying tourney, to other sits in the Continent, was unreasonable and unpractical, as restrictions into mainland China have made it difficult to hold the event.

He said it is disappointing but hopes the players understand, giving the continued evolution of the virus.

The tour which was first played in 2014, is owned by the PGA Professional Golfers Association and operates in partnership with the CGA Chinese golf association, and is open to all nationalities.

They also said players who obtained their membership following the 2019 season will maintain their status till 2021.
