Twitter promises better security post-hacking of verified accounts

After accounts of notable people were hacked, all announcing on their verified accounts on Twitter to be giving out free BTC’s, Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey has announced plans to ratify its security efforts.

Bill Gates, Joe Biden, Barrack Obama, Elon Musk and CEO’s of top Technology companies some of the targets. Twitter has been giving daily updates since the incident occured barely a few days ago, on the 15th of July.

Twitter identified that the hackers used social engineering to gain access into employees account and through their multi-factor authentication process. Close to 130 accounts were interfered with according to a statement released by the organization.

To gain access into the said accounts, the hackers initiated a password reset and logged into those accounts to execute their cryptocurrency scam.

More security training measures and company-wide trainings against social engineering are in the works as well as cooperating with law enforcement agencies to identify the perpetrators. The statement reads below

We’re acutely aware of our responsibilities to the people who use our service and to society more generally. We’re embarrassed, we’re disappointed, and more than anything, we’re sorry,” Twitter said. “We know that we must work to regain your trust, and we will support all efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. We hope that our openness and transparency throughout this process, and the steps and work we will take to safeguard against other attacks in the future, will be the start of making this right.”
