Less than two weeks after the popular Marian market in Calabar was gutted by fire, the Border Major Mile 2 market at Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State has also been burnt down by the fire.
Even though the cause of the fire is still unknown on Saturday morning, shops and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the Inferno.
Early callers to the scene of the incident Include the Chairman of the Market Association Emmanuel Odigha who called on the Local, State, and Federal Government to come to their aid, saying the Enugu/Onitsha line of the market was completely burnt down.
Efforts to speak with the Acting Director-General of Cross River State Emergency Agency were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off.
The Burnt Ikom Market is a major exchange place where buyers and sellers from Cameroon and Nigeria meet to do retail businesses due to its proximity to border in the Central Part of Cross River State.
