India records over 1 million cases of COVID-19, making the third country to reach the 1,000,000 marks.

The United States of America and Brazil are other countries with more than 1 million cases of the epidemic.

The U.S has more than 3.5 million cases with Brazil recording over 2 million cases of the virus.

Cases surged in India in the past week which pushed the total number higher than the cases in Russia.

The following mount in cases, India authorities have tried to impose an imperative lockdown and keep nationals behind closed doors.

On Friday, July 17 the country’s Ministry of Health announced 34,956 new cases of the epidemic. And 25, 602 deaths to the infection.

According to an epidemiologist at the Public Health Foundation of India, the mount and surge in cases are expected and a natural progression of pandemic diseases. Giridhar Babu explained.
