Timo Werner

Since January 2020, 24-year-old German International striker, Timo Werner, has been the subject of transfer rumours consistently.

Several links to the Premier League have been affiliated with the 5 ft. 9 striker who plies his trade with RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga.

Werner currently has 25 goals and 7 assists in the Bundesliga this season.

He has contributed 4 goals and 2 assists in the 2019/20 Champions League campaign. The former Stuttgart youth prodigy has also scored 2 goals and assisted with 3 goals after just 3 games in the DFB-Pokal.

It has been rumoured that the preferred destination of Werner is Anfield. He has expressed his desire to play under Jurgen Klopp after being impressed with the work that his German compatriot has done at Liverpool in his short stint.

Liverpool is the current reigning Champions League holders and they are on track to secure their first Premier League title in 30 years.

Klopp has targeted Werner as an addition to his ageing front line of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and a Sadio Mane who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Chelsea and Manchester United have also been rumoured to be in the market for the forward who can also operate as a left-winger.

These Premier League clubs now have 12 days to trigger a £49 million release clause. This is a rare window of opportunity to get a world-class striker for less than £50 million.

However, the recent sale of Mauro Icardi by Inter Milan to Paris Saint-Germain for €50 might affect the price tag of Werner. His current contract ties him down at Leipzig till 2023 but it has been rumoured that the German club would be willing to sell him for a reasonable price this summer.

In a recent interview in February, Werner described Liverpool as the best team in the world and dubbed Klopp as the best manager in the world currently. It is expected that Liverpool goes in for the striker.
