FG reacts to children wearing discarded PPEs in trending photos

The Federal Government has commented on the trending picture of three children on the internet wearing already disposed Personal Protect Gear (PPE).

The picture surfaced on social media on Monday.

 Boss Mustapha, the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, reacting to the picture, stated that he is unsure the picture was taken in Nigeria.

Careless and inappropriate disposable of PPEs could lead to a jump in the number of cases.

According to him, the picture marks a dangerous development and the need to sensitize the general public in risk communication and also health workers on the proper disposal of PPEs.

As Nigeria eases the second phase of lockdown, the Federal government announced that domestic flights could start operation from Sunday, June 21.

Captain Musa Nuhu, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, disclosed that only five airports are allowed to reopen while others remain shut indefinitely. 

Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Kano, Omagwa International Airport Port Harcourt, Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri, Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja, and Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos.

 To be recalled that airports in the country were shut and borders closed following the outbreak and mount in the number of cases of COVID-19.

Borders remain shut and international flights still on hold. 

Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, disclosed that 20 of the 770 local government areas in the country makes up about 50% of the country’s number of infection.

These local government cuts across eight states; Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Kano, Borno, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Below is the list of affected LGAs in Lagos State.

Lagos Island  has 111 cases
Mushin  has 458 case
Amuwo Odofin has 129 cases 
Alimosho  has  239 cases
Apapa  has 131 cases
Kosofe has  175 cases
Oshodi/Isolo has 132 cases 
Ikeja has  168 cases

Lagos Island is the least affected LGA in the state with 1,274 cases while Surulere has the least number on the list with 110 cases.

Nigeria has 10819 cases of the pandemic, 314 deaths, and 3239 recoveries.

On Monday, June 1, a COVID-19 patient ran away from the isolation center in Delta State.

This was confirmed by Charles Aniagwu, the State’s Commissioner for information.

According to Aniagwu, the escaped patients are being tracked as he is a potential danger to the community.

He made known that the General public has also been advised to stay away from him. 
Delta has 98 confirmed cases of the epidemic, 17 recoveries, and eight deaths.

The Federal Government as part of directives put in place as the country eases the second phase of lockdown disclosed that places of worship can reopen. 

Kaduna State Government, however, announced that markets and places of worship in the state remain closed till consultations with religious leaders on the safety of places of worship swinging back open are concluded.

Kaduna has 297 cases of the virus.
