The World Health Organisation, WHO, has disclosed that people living with non-communicable diseases are more probable to die from COVID-19.

It also warned against lifting attention and resources from non-communicable diseases.

Diseases such as stroke, autoimmune diseases, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, osteoporosis, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, cataracts, and heart diseases.

According to a recent survey published on June 1, by WHO, non-communicable diseases such as the aforementioned kill not less than 40 million people every year. 

The United Nation’s Health Agency made known that the 21-day long study was conducted in 155 countries around the globe.

The study also shows that 94% of the countries have diverted attention from Non Communicable diseases to focus on the pandemic disease that has infected over 6 million people and killed more than 371,000 people around the globe.

Screening campaigns for cervical and breast cancer have been indefinitely stopped in over half of the 155 countries.

According to the WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, people suffering from these diseases have stopped receiving treatment because of the epidemic outbreak.

Going further, he stated that it is imperative for countries around the globe to continue essential services for Non-communicable diseases as they battle the pandemic disease.
