mauro icardi signs psg deal

The option to buy now-former Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has been triggered by Paris Saint-Germain. The 27-year-old initially signed a season-long loan deal after he fell out of favour at Inter. He was stripped of the captaincy after a clash with former Inter coach Luciano Spalleti and the club management.

PSG then snapped him up as a cover for ageing and out of form Edison Cavani after new Inter coach Antonio Conte made it clear that Icardi was not in his plans for the season. Icardi has enjoyed his stay in the French capital as he has contributed with 20 goals and 4 assists this season.

Icardi’s relationship with Neymar and Mbappe on the pitch has been pivotal for PSG’s success this season as they were crowned the Ligue 1 champions after the season was cancelled due to directives from the French government.

The striker has now signed a four-year-deal to complete a permanent move rumoured to be worth £45 million. This deal now leaves the window open for Cavani to potentially join Inter as he would be a replacement for Lautaro Martinez who seems to be on his way out of Italy to join Barcelona.

It has also been rumoured that Inter wants to use the funds from Icardi’s sale to sign highly-rated Italy U-21 midfielder, Sandro Tonali. The player has been compared to Italian football legend, Andrea Pirlo. Inter hope to secure the services of the Brescia player for next season.
