Violence was dispersed by the police and the National guard at the peaceful protesters at Lafayette Square Park in Washington DC by firing tear gas and flashbangs at the protesters just moments before the President’s speech.
Witnesses said that the protest was the most peaceful protest that had occurred in the area since it began last week. The attack by the police began around 7 p.m. just before the curfew.
After the streets were cleared of the protesters, the President, Donald Trump, gave a national address at Rose garden.
In his address, Donald Trump said that his first and highest duty is to protect the American people and the righteous cries of peaceful protesters are being drowned out by an angry mob.
He said that he knew Americans were revolted by the violent death of George Floyd and he is going to make sure that Floyd’s family receives justice for their loss.
He said, “I am your president of Law and Order and an ally to all peaceful protesters.”
The President promised to fight to keep Americans safe but the nation has been gripped by violent mobs, anarchists, arsonists, criminals, among others and some states and local governments have failed to take the necessary actions to protect the people.
Trump said he’s taking immediate presidential actions to stop the violence and he will restore safety and security in the country. All federal resources, civilians, and military are now being mobilized around the country to end the arson, looting, destruction, and protect the people of America.
Trump has now issued new measures around the country effective immediately.
He has now instructed the governors of every state to deploy the National guard “insufficient numbers” to dominate the streets until the violence ends and bring an end to the riot and the protest.
Trump said that if any state doesn’t do as instructed, he will send the United States military to the state and he will solve the problem for them.
The 7 pm curfew will now be strictly enforced, any individual who violates this curfew will be arrested, detained, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and the organizers of the riots will face severe penalties and lengthy sentences in jail.
