Cross River prepares for its forthcoming local government elections. The exercise is to commence this weekend.
The State’s COVID-19 Task Force makes it imperative for voters to put on face masks as they gather for the voting exercise.
This was confirmed by Betta Edu, Cross River’s COVID-19 Task Force leader on Wednesday, May 27, during the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abi Local Government Chapter’s visit.
According to her, the imperative use of face masks during the voting exercise is in line with INEC’s protocol on conducting elections during this critical time, amidst mount and risk of Coronavirus.
She made known that thousands of face masks and hand sanitizers have been made available and to be distributed to the public by CROSEIC and also election materials to be made available to electoral officers.
Going further, she disclosed that health workers would be available at different polling units to ensure that voters comply with the mandatory use of face masks.
The mobilization of health workers to different polling units in the state Ministry of Health is in conjunction with Cross River State Primary Healthcare Agency.
Asides from the imperative use of face masks, the two-meter spacing between voters to enable physical distancing is mandatory.
The state government already made face masks mandatory in public places for residents.
Cross River has no recorded case of COVID-19.
