The Lagos State government has approved for BRT buses in the state to increase their carrying capacity after they reduced it to only 21 seaters after the lockdown measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 was relaxed.
The Lagos State Transport Service has approved the carrying of no more than 42 passengers seated in BRT buses.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, L A M A T A.
The previous maximum number of passengers allowed after the lockdown was relaxed was 21 passengers as no more than 60% of capacity was allowed.
She disclosed that the Passengers would still be expected to follow the other measures put in place to curb the spread of the virus, such as; wearing face masks and the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers to clean their hands.
Passenger’s temperatures would also be checked before they are allowed on board the bus and they expect the bus operators to disinfect their vehicles regularly.
