Immigration arrests 14 Togolese, 10 Nigerians on border in Ogun State

Operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service at Ajilete and Ilase border posts in Ogun State have arrested 14 Togolese and 10 Nigerians for defying the directive on the closure of land borders to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, James Sunday, the Comptroller of Ogun State Command, Kunle Osisanya, while profiling them said the 14 Togolese were made up of 8 adults all females, six minors also females arrested in a J5 bus at Ajilete while the other 10 were arrested at Ilase all in Ogun State.

He also noted that 5 of those arrested were victims of human trafficking, hence they will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP. He added that they have all been profiled accordingly after health officials in line with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, medical procedures subjected them to Covid-19 test.

The Immigration Comptroller-General, Muhammad Babandede, commended the operatives for being gallant and professional as some of the arrests were made along illegal entry points created by the human smugglers. He charged the officers to up the tempo of their patrol.
