The Kaduna State chapter of the Health Workers’ Union and Association has threatened to go on a seven-day warning strike within the next 24 hours if the state government fails to reverse the 25 per cent deduction of their salaries.
Addressing a news conference in Kaduna, the state’s Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Stephen Kache, said the deduction of salaries of health workers to fight COVID-19 is not acceptable.
Kache stressed that if nothing is done, the Union will be left with no option but to embark on an indefinite strike.
The Union said that the health workers have agreed to contribute only five per cent of their salaries as well as sacrifice any incentive from the government in combating COVID-19.
Recently, the Kaduna State government said it is deducting 25 per cent of salaries of civil servants earning above sixty-seven thousand Naira to fight COVID-19.
