Police arrest two suspected armed robbers fleeing Anambra

Ogbonna Chigozie and Chimezie Afulor suspected armed robbers were arrested by the police in Anambra state while trying to escape into Abia State through one of the boundaries after a robbery operation in the state.

SP Haruna Mohammed the police spokesman in the state, speaking to the journalists in Awka, Anambra State, that the suspected armed robbers were nabbed around 5 am on Thursday by the police officers from Umuchu police division while they were on boundary patrol.

According to him, on the 14/05/2020 at around 5:23 am, Ogbonna Chigozie who is 18 years from Uturu, Abia State but resides at Nkpor in Idemili North LGA, and one Chimezie Afulor aged 33 years from Akirra Umunokpa, Uzowani LGA of Enugu State were stopped by Police officers who are linked to the Umuchu Division together with guard team from MOPOL 29 PMF Awka. These teams are concerned with enforcing the COVID-19 Curfew in Umuchu, Aguata LGA

As gathered, the armed robbers were inside a Tricycle at the border in Umuchu with number plate GDD 081 VC. They conducted themselves in a dubious manner which made the officers on duty immediately searched them and they found a locally made pistol suspects with rounds of missiles, other illegal objects, and also a sum of ₦31,720.

Preceding investigation disclosed that the tricycle they rode in was also stolen from Nkpor and they were trying to get to Akokwa in Imo State before they were arrested.
