The Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, has asked Muslims to look out for the Crescent of Shawwal from Friday as the countdown to the end of Ramadan fast enters its final stages.
The NSCIA under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar II, also felicitated with the entire Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and all over the world on the 2020 Ramadan Fast.
In a statement, the Council said based on the advice of the National Moon Sighting Committee, Friday, May 22, 2020, which is equivalent to the 29th Ramadan, 1441 AH is the first day to look for the Crescent of Shawwal.
On that day, the moon will set few minutes before the sun which makes the sighting of the crescent practically impossible.
However, In compliance with the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet, the Sultan said the search for the Crescent of Shawwal will follow immediately after sunset on Friday.
“Muslims all over the country are hereby enjoined to be on the lookout for the announcement by His Eminence, the President-General of NSCIA, on the termination of this year’s Ramadan fast,” the statement said.
The Council urged traditional Islamic leaders in each locality to also report credible sighting of the Shawwal Crescent to the Moon Sighting Committee.
The Council prays that the Almighty Allah grants the Ummah the opportunity to witness more of it on earth.
