In November 2019, more than 200 families were displaced by landslides. On Sunday, May 17, these displaced households received new houses from Kenya’s government through the country’s Red Cross society.

The Kenya Government had given the contract of construction of 223 two-bedroomed semi-permanent houses following November 2019 unfortunate incident in Parua, Nyarkulian, and Muino villages.

Eugene Wamalwa, Devolution, and Arid, and Semi-Arid Areas Cabinet Secretary confirmed that 109 houses are built in West Pokot County, 42 in Tamkal, and 72 in  Nyarkulian for victims of landslides in 2019.

This was also confirmed by Professor John Lonyangapuo, West Pokot County Governor. Wamalwa and Lonyangapuo distributed food and non-food items to victims.

The resettlement project was initiated after the government and other humanitarian agencies mobilised funds to provide houses for the landlines victims.
