The world’s largest online retail giant Amazon has built an ultra-violet (UV) light-emitting robot in hopes that it would kill the COVID 19 virus in their warehouse and at food stores.
Scientific studies have shown that the UV light can kill various types of germs and viruses although we remain unsure if the COVID 19 virus is among the viruses the ultra-violet light has the ability to kill.
Some researchers are currently testing the ultraviolet (UV) light’s ability to kill the novel COVID 19 virus in Columbia University. The UV light robots can be used at food stores to kill germs and viruses on the surface of the product packages.
When the COVID 19 pandemic began, researchers warned shoppers that it was possible that the virus could stay alive on their packages especially if they’re buying from online stores such as Amazon.
Kristen Kish, Amazon’s spokesperson disclosed that the company’s robotic group designed the UV robots and are still testing it. The company is looking for the best way to eradicate the virus and if they find any effective method, other businesses could also consider using this robot to disinfect surfaces.
The UV light robot is still in the testing phase and Amazon has not yet introduced it to their warehouses yet.
