Kogi remains the only state in Nigeria with not a single case of the dreaded COVID-19 virus. Yesterday, the State’s Governor Yahaya Bello through Kogi’s commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Kingsley Fanwo made known that the 111 samples randomly taken for the test came back negative.

The tests as disclosed by Fanwo were taken without the supervision of any NCDC officials. In Kaduna yesterday, Nasir El-Rufai, the State’s Governor took to his Twitter page to announce 11 Almajiris who were sent back to Kaduna tested negative to the virus and are discharged from the hospital. In the same breath, he announced recoveries of 12 other COVID-19 patients in the state. Kaduna currently has 111 cases of the disease and 27 recoveries.

Governor Seyi Makinde yesterday announced via his Twitter page, two newly recorded cases of the virus in Oyo State. Which plunged the number of confirmed cases in the State to 67. The recently confirmed cases were from Ibadan North and Ibadan North West. Also, Makinde disclosed the State has 3 new recoveries which bring the total number of recoveries in the State to 17.

The Vice-Chairman of COVID-19 Committee, Dr Mohammed Lawan Gana confirmed yesterday in Damaturu, Yobe’s capital that the state now has 20 recorded cases of coronavirus. Lawan Gana confirmed 3 deaths to the pandemic disease all in Damaturu. One of the deceased had died in the Nguru isolation centre.

Lagos State remains the never centre of the virus in the country. The State has recorded close to 2000 cases. Lagos State’s Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, confirmed the death of a 32-year old COVID-19 patient in the state yesterday May 12 via his Twitter page. The man arrived in Nigeria recently from Dubai with an underlying health condition. 33 more patients who tested negative to the virus were discharged. The  State has 1990 confirmed cases and 502 recovered patients.

On Tuesday also, 12 patients were discharged after testing negative to the virus. This was confirmed in a tweet by the FCTA. This brought the total number of recoveries in the State to 65. Currently, Abuja has 360 confirmed cases and the third state with the most number of cases in Nigeria.

The  President, Muhammadu Buhari placed an indefinite ban on interstate travel in his last national address. This and other new directives were put in place to be strictly followed as the Country continues to fight against the virus. 

However, 50 violators were caught in Kaduna flouting the interstate travel ban. They were placed under compulsory isolation at the Kaduna State  NYSC camp. This was disclosed by Muyiwa Adekeye the Special Adviser to the State governor. According to him, 27 travellers were first isolated at the camp before 23 others were caught on Monday. In the statement, he made known that anyone caught trying to enter Kaduna would be turned back except those on essential service.

Another Policeman tested positive to the virus in Ogun State. Ogun currently has 127 coronavirus cases. According to a Police wireless message, the infected Policeman is attached to Asiwaju Bolarinwa Adebutu who had earlier tested positive to the virus. He is identified as Dabi Kehinde with reference number: 4161/DOPS/SPU/B13/OGS/VOL.1/15. He is currently under imperative isolation in the State Isolation centre at Ikenne.

Still in Ogun, a Policeman died at the State capital on Sunday from the pandemic disease. He died at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba. Akwa Ibom recorded recoveries of 5 COVID-19 patients from the Isolation Centre of Ibom Specialty Hospital. This includes a mother nursing her 7-month-old baby. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control had confirmed that these patients tested negative and are safe to be discharged. Also, among the 5 recovered patients is a health worker at the State University Teaching Hospital. Akwa Ibom currently has 17 cases of the virus.

The Cross River State Government insisted that NCDC officials coming into the state must be isolated. They must follow due cause because it is imperative for the safety of the state. This was disclosed in the State Capital by Doctor Betta Edu, Cross River’s Commissioner of Health.

The country’s Federal government announced yesterday that vaccine for the pandemic disease may not be ready until 2021. This was disclosed by Boss Mustapha, The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force. Going further, he stated that the country has also resulted in a native solution, homegrown cure like a couple of other countries.

He, therefore, urged local researchers to make sure their drug undergoes the necessary validation protocol. Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor made known that the apex bank would fund research for the COVID-19 vaccine in the country. He made this known yesterday in the nation’s Federal Capital Territory.

He stated that if the country waits for the vaccine from the western world, Nigeria would be the last amongst several other waiting countries to receive vaccines for the over 200 million population. He also disclosed that CBN launched 100billion naira as intervention fund for the country’s health care.

Tolu Ogunlesi one of Bubari’s special Aid made known that the President didn’t ‘order’ for Madagascar’s alleged COVID-19 cure. Tolu Ogunlesi via a tweet on Tuesday’s stated that the Madagascar cure brought into the country was an ‘allocation’. Several other countries like Nigeria also received the allocation which would be subjected to clinical trials and standard NAFDAC procedure before administered for use in the country. 

In the same breath, Sani Aliyu, the Coordinator, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 also made known on Tuesday that the herbal cure from Madagascar would be subjected test to see the efficiency and efficacy of the alleged cure. Nigeria has 4787 recorded cases, 959 recoveries, and 158 death.
