Jukun violence

The warring factions in the Tiv and Jukun communal clashes in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State have accused security agencies of complicity in the conflict.

The allegations are coming on the heels of what could be reprisal attacks on some villages in the area.

Despite several peace meetings to put an end to the conflict between the Tiv and the Jukun people in the state, the crisis between the two ethnic groups has lingered on.

An agreement on the cessation of hostilities at a peace meeting held in Nasarawa State some weeks ago, has since been broken.

And the result is the loss of more lives and properties due to attacks and reprisals on both sides, with the warring parties pointing accusing fingers at each other, and even the government and security agencies.

The Taraba State Police Command has, however, absolved its men of any complicity in the crisis.

At least six villages have been burnt down, and an unspecified number of persons killed in fresh attacks this week.
