Edo State tests 625 persons for Covid-19; discharges 2 more patients

Edo State Government has announced the discharge of two more Coronavirus patients, who tested negative twice after successful treatment.

This brings the number of discharged Coronavirus patients in the state to 12.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, who made this known in a statement, charged all residents to support the State Government efforts at stemming the spread of the virus by complying with all laid down directives.

Commissioner for Health, Patrick Okundia, noted that Edo State has recorded 65 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and four deaths, hinting that the state has so far, collected 625 samples for testing, out of which 423 have tested negative.

The Commissioner said that the state has identified 338 persons of interest and line listed 666 contacts. A total of 113 of the persons of interest and 380 contacts have been cleared after completing the mandatory 14-day follow up and tested negative.

Okundia noted that the 65 confirmed cases were recorded in Oredo-39; Esan West – four; Egor – seven; Ovia North East- six; Ikpoba-Okha – four; Uhunmwode – two; and one each in Etsako Central, Esan South East, and Akoko-Edo.

The Commissioner, who said the state’s improved efforts at screening and testing were responsible for the rising number of confirmed cases, noted that Edo State has screened over 85,104 residents cut across the 18 local councils and 192 wards in the State.

Okundia, however, reassured that the remaining cases that are yet to be discharged are on active treatment at various isolation facilities in the state and are responding well to treatment.
