East African Countries battle with flood right after locust invasion

Kenya amongst other East African countries is experiencing a high death rate from floods. The Kenya government recorded 194 deaths. Also in Rwanda, a total of 55 people have died as a result of heavy downpour and flood.

In the same breath, floods in Somalia have killed about 16 people. While in Uganda extreme water levels have made about 200 patients stuck inside a clinic. These East African countries have also experienced locust invasion and the novel coronavirus.

Government officials in Kenya told its people in the affected areas to evacuate their homes to avoid danger. The flood had swept and destroyed properties which include crops and important buildings. The government disclosed. It was predicted that extremely heavy downpour will continue throughout the month of May.

The rainy season lasts until June every year. In the western part of Uganda, a riverbank burst which caused a lot of the residents to leave the affected houses to a safe place in Kasese town.
At Kilembe hospital, rescuers are trying to get the trapped patients safe and get them to a church.

Recently, the water level in Lake Victoria has gotten to an unmatched level, which has led the residents around the area to leave their houses,  caused erosion around the River Nile.

This has led to the loss of vegetation and also the country is left with no electricity as the erosion hit the hydroelectric power station. The rain last year caused disasters, floods, and landslides, and not more than 250 people died and three billion were affected in East Africa.
