Following the outbreak of coronavirus in Nigeria, the Federal government placed an imperative ban on religious gatherings. Churches and mosques remain indefinitely locked. Enugu State Government on March 31 placed a ban on every religious activity in the state.

During this period also, the state was on a partial lockdown following the outbreak. However, Churches will swing open on May 10. This was disclosed by the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Enugu chapter on Thursday, May 7.

According to a statement signed by Most. Rev. Christopher Ede, the Archbishop of Enugu Methodist Church Nigeria, Churches in the state are reopening following agreements with the Government.

Reverend Father Ede also stated that as churches reopen, each religious group must observe the health guidelines and safety precautions as stipulated by NCDC. All member churches of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CNN) in Enugu are free to open on May 10 and resume public worships. Churches in most states in Nigeria remain locked down and services continue virtually.
