One of Europe’s top-flight leagues is set to resume on the 16th of May. The Bundesliga made this announcement last night after a press conference by the Prime Minister earlier in the day.
Angela Merkel stated that football in Germany could resume mid-May after the German Football Association (DFL) assured the government of the safety of the players.
These matches will be played behind closed doors meaning fans would not be allowed into the stadium. However, the personnel that will be required in and around the stadiums on match days will be up to 300.
The Bundesliga will be under the microscopic watch of the German government as Angela Merkel stated that the return of football is a tentative arrangement as the health and safety measures will be scrutinized as the lives of people supersede the need to play football.
She went on to say that the return of football in Germany should be credited to their unique health system. All eyes will be on the Bundesliga now as it is expected that the other top-flight leagues except the French Ligue 1 will follow suit. Football fans will be excited about the return of their favourite sports.
