Katsina State announces 39 new Coronavirus cases

Katsina State has recorded 37 new cases of Coronavirus being its highest number of daily infections since the index case was confirmed in the state. 

Governor Aminu Masari, who announced this, said the state now has 75 confirmed cases.

As at the time of filing this report however, health authorities in the state told reporters that more cases have been confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

 The Governor, while giving the update on the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state, said as at May 4, 2020, the confirmed cases stand at 75 while six persons have been discharged from the isolation centre with five deaths recorded so far.

Masari further urged the people to obey the laid down regulations about the lockdown imposed on the affected 10 local government areas, stating that the mode of infection now is community transmission.

He appealed to the NCDC to hasten up and establish testing centres in the state.

While calling on journalists in the state to do more in terms of sensitising people on the need to respect the lockdown and stay-at-home, the Governor lamented that more cases are been recorded in Katsina.

On the locking down of the Emir of Daura’s palace, he said 87 samples have been taken and results are being awaited as the palace is like public places hence, need to take such decision.

Commenting on the compulsory use of facemasks, the Governor said there is on going mass production of masks, which will be distributed before enforcing the presidential order.

Meanwhile, the government will also soon start the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable people in the state.
