Following the plunge in the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Kano State and the strange number of deaths, the state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje stated that the massive outbreak is a result of the delay in the testing of those suspected to have been infected.
As much as hundreds of people are reportedly dying in the state. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) stated that these people may have died succumbing to COVID-19. Kano State Governor disclosed that the state is in trouble with the tripling number of death and the skyrocketing number of daily infections. This was made known in a statement by Abba Anwar, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary.
Ganduje reportedly disclosed that Kano was on a shaky foundation. According to him, samples take 7 hours to get to Abuja and another 7 hours to return back again. Following this, the state cried out to the federal government which ordered that a testing Centre be built at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital which was eventually shut down in days.
This led the transmission in Kano to plunge till it reached the level of community transmission. However, with the re-opening of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital testing centre, with Bayero hospital which has the capacity to run a test on 200 samples daily and the mobile testing centre which has the capacity of testing 400 samples daily, Kano is making progress in tackling the pandemic disease.
