The Zamfara State Government approved has N470 million subsidy on food for the state’s civil servants.
Governor Bello Mohammed in a press statement by his Director General, Press Affairs, Yusuf Idris, made this known when he was hosting Labour leaders to break the Ramadan fast in Gusau, the state capital.
The Governor said his administration has resolved to reduce the hardship being experienced as a result of COVID-19.
He has, therefore, directed for the supply of rice that will be sold to the state civil servants at a 50 per cent discount.
He also assured that there would be no cut in salaries as proposed by other Governors and called on the state civil servants to appreciate the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of the citizens.
The Governor promised the continued payment of salaries and wages as and when due, including those on promotions and leave grants.
The State NLC Chairman, Comrade, Bashir Mafara, thanked the Governor for granting the subsidy, saying it is the first time civil servants are witnessing such a gesture.
He promised that the Union would continue to support and cooperate with all government policies and programmes.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru and other senior government officials attended the breaking of fast.
