In Madagascar, citizens must necessarily put on face masks in public places or be made to clean the streets. Police in Antananarivo, the country’s capital are arresting citizens who flout the directives and make them clean the city streets.
This new rule began this week and as such violators are seen cleaning city streets, picking garbages and disposing of them. Andry Rajoelina, Madagascar’s President made it imperative for citizens in the nation’s capital and other big cities to wear face masks in public places as the country slowly ease out of lockdown.
The leader of the anti-coronavirus operations in Madagascar, Gen. Elak Olivier Andriakaja made known that 70% of the citizens are following the stipulated rule. According to Andriakaja before citizens were made to face community service, the government raised awareness of the new rules.
As gathered, 500 citizens were nabbed and punished on Monday for flouting the rules. 25 of them were immediately made to clean the streets. Madagascar has 128 confirmed cases of the virus, no recorded death, and 75 recovered individuals.
