FFF and LPF decide to crown PSG League Champions despite French Ligue 1 Cancellation

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister of France, Edouard Phillippe declared that all sporting activities will seize till at least September. Therefore, the French Ligue 1 2019/20 season has been cancelled. 

The Ligue 1 officials were already considering a return to action in June with players to start training in May. Also, the Ligue 1 were given a deadline by UEFA to submit a proposal to restart their league. The deadline was slated for the 25th but UEFA stated that leagues with issues in their countries will be dealt with leniently.

The French Football Federation (FFF) in agreement with the Professional Football League (LPF) has decided to crown Paris Saint German the League Champions while Marseille and Rennes have qualified for next season’s Champions League Campaign as Lille, Reims, and Nice were awarded the Europa League spots.

Ligue 2 was also affected as FC Lorient and RC Lens secured promotion to Ligue 1 because Amiens and Toulouse have suffered relegation from Ligue 1.
