Less than 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari’s national broadcast, Cross River State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade, has urged the Federal Government to discontinue with the policy of shutting down the country in its effort to contain the Coronavirus pandemic.
Ayade, who spoke to reporters Tuesday at the Cross River State Rice Seeds and Seedlings Factory in Calabar during the official commencement of the deployment of agricultural machines to various parts of the state, said a complete lockdown of Nigeria has been counter productive.
The Governor, while urging the Federal Government to ease some of its restrictions including flights, Ayade said the pandemic offers Africa the opportunity to catch up with the rest of the world economically, insisting that only the sick should be identified, isolated, and locked down.
Governor Ayade commended the Federal Government for its directive on the use of nose mask, saying if everyone goes out with it, the chances of spreading the COVID-19 pandemic are slim within an environment.
