With the rapid increase of the deadly coronavirus, the Oyo State government has shut down one of the hospitals where the patient died as a result of the pandemic disease. The Lafia hospital in Apata Ibadan has been shut down for two weeks.
This report came in a few days after a COVID-19 patient visited the hospital for hypertension treatment. It was announced earlier in the week by the state government the death of a 55-year-old known patient who lied about his health status and travel history.
As gathered, the 55-year-old man is a leading officer in the Nigerian customs service in the Northern part of the country and has his family in Ibadan the Oyo state capital.
All members of staff who came in contact with the patient have been tested for the deadly COVID-19 disease and the hospital has been closed for proper fumigation of the building.
On the 20th of April, a 55-year-old known patient with hypertension and DM was presented in the hospital was reported to have malaria & typhoid and have been taken to several hospitals but no improvement.
The Doctor on duty who examined him requested a radiogram. The report he brought in to the hospital was reviewed on the 21st of April by the consultant who suspected COVID-19.
Unfortunately, it was at the point of contacting the NCDC the daughter of the late patient out of fear confessed that her father has been tested for COVID-19. On hearing of this information, the patient was instantly transferred to the university college hospital in Ibadan.
The result came out positive and the patient reportedly gave up the ghost on Wednesday 22nd April 2020All staff who had come in contact with the patient have been tested for COVID-19.
‘The NCDC task force visited our hospital on Thursday 23rd April though not directed by NCDC to close, the hospital is currently closed down for decontamination of the premises, thereby our services remain suspended for 2weeks.
“The well being of our staff & patients is key and important to us” In conclusion, he said another member of staff will also undergo the COVID-19 test.
