Ramaphosa confirms appearance at Zondo Commission

Following the outbreak of COVID-19 in Africa, South Africa has the most recorded number of confirmed cases in the continent. Currently, South Africa has 3,953 recorded cases of the pandemic disease and 75 death poll.

Like several other countries around the globe, the country puts in place lockdown measures to help combat the skyrocketing spread of the virus. According to the nation’s President,  Cyril Ramaphosa in a broadcast on Thursday revealed that a five-week nationwide lockdown would be slowly eased for May 1.

Going further, Ramaphosa stated that it has been decided that after 30 April, the nation would ease into a gradual and phased recovery. The South Africa President stated that a risk-adjusted strategy would be put in place in South Africa which will lead to an intentional and careful approach to the relaxing of current stay-home restrictions.

The current lockdown in the nation began on 27 March. The residents are admonished to stay confined in their homes and only come out to get medical appointments, foodstuff, and go to the pharmacy.

Essential services, however, are exempted from this lockdown. The lockdown proved to be effective as the spread of the pandemic disease was reduced. This led to an extended lockdown to the end of April 30.
