Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammad Sabo Nanono, has inaugurated the Joint Technical Task Team on Emergency Response to COVID-19 Food Supply.
The Joint Task Team is to facilitate the movement and free flow of food, livestock and agricultural inputs across the country during the lockdown period.
The newly inaugurated team is expected to adequately ensure that vehicles conveying foodstuff, livestock and Agricultural inputs are allowed to pass and ensure that information clarifying this purpose is disseminated by the media to food transporters and security personnel.
Speaking during the inauguration in Abuja, the Minister said the team will also facilitate farmers movement to their farms for increased food production to avoid post COVID-19 food crisis.
He charged the committee to be up and running in the discharge of its duties to achieve set goals and ensure minimal impact of COVID -19 on the 2020 farming season.
The Joint Technical Task Team is made up of the following members; AIG (Operations) Austin Agbonlahor, Chairman; ACG Bunu Modu; Umar Farouk Mudi, Representative Nigeria Army Member; National President Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Chris Isizuzo; National President, NURTW Ibikunle Tajudeen Barruwan; and Zubariu Abdullahi from the Ministry as Secretary.
