taraba state announces lockdown

In Taraba yesterday, the State Government announced a lockdown of the state following the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country. Although Taraba State has no recorded case of the virus, the lockdown announced by the Deputy Governor Alhaji Haruna Manu during a broadcast yesterday, 21 April, will begin at 11 pm on Wednesday.

According to him, this stay-home order is imperative considering the increase in the number of confirmed cases in neighbouring states. In effect, police will be on the street to arrest anyone who flouts the lockdown order and also, the movement of cars and persons on the road are outrightly banned.

Manu confirmed in the broadcast that are roadblocks at boundaries between Taraba and states close to it. Also, roadblocks are fixed in all the local government areas in Taraba that share international boundaries with Cameroon.

While this lockdown commenced, religious activities are placed on hold and also banned until further notice. However on Wednesdays and Saturdays, between 10:am- 2:00 pm, people would be allowed out to get groceries and other essential items.

According to the Deputy Governor, other necessary precautions would be taken in the fight against COVID-19. Nigeria currently has 782 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 25 recorded death, and 197 discharged persons.
