The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has ordered an immediate assessment of the General Hospital in Gboko Local Council.

The Governor also disclosed plans to commence its rehabilitation in three phases over 40 years after its establishment.

Governor Ortom gave the directive shortly after an inspection visit to the hospital and equally warned persons encroaching on the hospital’s land to desist in their own interest.

Since its establishment as far back as 1975, the General Hospital Gboko has not had any form of government intervention which has left the health facility in such a deplorable state.

However, the mixed reaction generated by the novel COVID-19 pandemic across the globe, spurred private practitioners in Gboko to renovate one of the blocks in the hospital for an isolation centre.

This Nobel gesture drew the attention of Governor Ortom who immediately took it up from there.

He equally directed the Commissioner for Housing to liaise with that of Lands to relocate trespassers encroaching on the hospital’s land.
